Dairy Herdshare FAQ

Dairy Herdshare Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is a dairy herdshare?
A dairy herdshare allows you to purchase an ownership interest in a herd of dairy cows and pay a monthly boarding fee for their care and milking. As a shareholder, you receive milk from the herd each week.
White Oak Ranch operates a private herdshare in Southern Oregon, allowing members to access fresh, pasture-raised milk directly from the farm.

  • Is herdshare legal in Oregon?
Yes. Herdshares operate as private contractual agreements between farm and shareholder. Members purchase an ownership share of the herd and pay for boarding and care.

  • Is your milk 100% grass-fed?
Yes. Our cows are 100% grass-fed and rotationally grazed on open pasture. We do not feed grain, and we do not use added hormones or routine antibiotics.

  • What does A2/A2 mean?
Our herd has been genetically tested A2/A2. This means their milk contains only the A2 beta-casein protein — a traditional protein type that many families seeking A2 milk in Southern Oregon prefer.

  • Where do I pick up my milk?
We currently offer herdshare pickup in:
  • Eagle Point
  • Ashland
Coming soon:
  • Phoenix

  • How much does a herdshare cost?
Herdshares are invoiced monthly at:
  • Half Gallon Share — $8 per week
  • Gallon Share — $16 per week
Pricing reflects responsible pasture-based farming and small herd management.

  • Is there a long-term commitment?
Herdshares operate on a simple monthly structure. Contact us for current terms and availability. Because our herd is small and pasture-based, shares are limited.
  • What if I go out of town?
Members may coordinate with another member to pick up their share, or arrangements can be discussed in advance.

  • What other products are available?
Herdshare members receive access to additional seasonal dairy products such as:
  • Greek yogurt
  • Butter
  • Fresh cream
Availability varies by season and milk production levels.

  • Why choose a herdshare instead of store milk?
Families choose herdshare because they value:
  • 100% grass-fed dairy
  • Transparent local farming
  • A2/A2 milk
  • Direct support of Southern Oregon agriculture
  • A relationship with their food source
